906k Spotify followers, 14.7 million Spotify streams and over 83k IG followers. In the space of just a few short months and with just three releases to her name, South London rapper & singer ENNY has leapt into the forefront of the public consciousness as one of the most important young voices to emerge as of late.
Now, the rising star follows the release of her OCC charting third single Peng Black Girls with the release of her highly anticipated brand new single, Same Old, premiered as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World on BBC Radio 1. Taken from her eagerly awaited debut EP.
Masked behind a jazzy sunny beat, the track highlights everything that is unique about the uncompromising young artist. With lyrics that highlight the pain of Brexit, gentrification and complicated love, the track is ultimately about the triumph overcoming the struggles of daily existence and is another gem from the outspoken artist. Speaking on the track, ENNY says “'There are so many beautiful moments and feelings attached to this track from the moment it was created and I hope that anyone that listens to it is able to experience that energy when they hear it”.
In October of last year, ENNY released Peng Black Girls to rapturous acclaim. Written with the intention of being a unifying track among Black women everywhere, the Amia Brave-featured track became a powerful anthem across the globe, winning applause from the likes of i-D, Dazed, The Face, Crack, Mixmag, Essence, NME, GRM, Link Up, Trench, Clash The Fader, ELLE and many more. The single was shortly followed afterwards with a new feature from Jorja Smith, which was playlisted across BBC Radio1, 1xtra, Capital Xtra, KISS FRESH, Rinse FM and Reprezent! With further support from the likes of Chris Brown, Summer Walker, Didier Drogba & Skepta, the track ultimately led to ENNY skyrocketing to her first cover with the release of Crack Magazine’s latest issue this February.
